The month of February is nationally and locally recognized as Career and Technical Education month and this year, Jackson River Technical Center is celebrating its 50th year in serving the Alleghany Highlands as a hub of workforce training education within the public schools and adult sectors.

Josh Craft, principal at Jackson River Technical Center, is inviting the Alleghany Highlands community to a public open house to visit the center and gain first-hand insight by seeing the students and instructors in action.

Community members and parents are welcome to visit JRTC and take a self-guided tour of its programs between 9:30-11:30 a.m. and from 1-3 p.m. All visitors must check in with the office before beginning their tour.  AHPS encourages all interested people to attend, no matter their role in the community or the age of their children.

“Partners and parents in the Alleghany Highlands are encouraged to come see the programs offered at JRTC and what the future of our community is learning,” Craft said.

Jackson River Technical Center opened as a regional vocational school in the fall of 1974 and it now serves as an integral part of Alleghany Highlands Public Schools.
